Francken, Frans II
b. 1581, Antwerpen, d. 1642, Antwerpen
Painter, son of Frans Francken I. Of all the members of the Francken family, Frans II is the most important and still the most widely known. There are paintings by him in all large public collections in Europe. Besides altarpieces and painted furniture panels, he produced mainly small cabinet pictures with historical, mythological or allegorical themes. Frans II's rank as an artist is not so much derived from his extensive output as from his innovative subject-matter: his depictions of luxuriously decorated Kunstkammern and art galleries Related Paintings of Francken, Frans II :. | The Seven Acts of Charity | Allegory on the Abdication of Emperor Charles V in Brussels 25 October 1555 | Madonna and Child in a Landscape | An Antique Dealer-s Gallery | The Triumph of Neptune and Amphitrite | Related Artists: Gerardus Laurentius Keultjespainted The assault on Algiers by the allied Anglo-Dutch squadron in 1817
Cornelis de HeemDutch Baroque Era Painter, 1631-1695
Son of Jan Davidsz. de Heem. He spent a great deal of his life in Antwerp, where he was taught by his father. Cornelis also worked in Utrecht in 1667, in nearby IJsselstein in 1676 and in The Hague from 1676 for more than ten years. His best works approach the quality of his father, particularly in works executed during the decade starting in 1655. Cornelis still-lifes can be distinguished by daring colour harmonies, sometimes with a strong blue. His compositions are often simpler: fruit-pieces, floral bouquets, festoons and garlands and sumptuous still-lifes, only occasionally in large formats. His technique changed from a more painterly to a more graphic style. Jan Stobbaerts1539 - 1584
